Slang Sunday

Hello friends,

Today is Slang Sunday. So, here's the phrase of the day: the pocket.

In football, when the quarterback drops back to pass, the offensive line -- the center, guards and tackles -- is blocking the defense. The defensive line pushes forward, the offensive line is pushing back and holding them at bay. As that happens a "pocket" is usually formed, which allows the QB protection and, at times, they can even step into it. So the pocket can = protection.

Chat it up and enjoy!

Charlie Weis out at Notre Dame. Who is next to take the reins of the Irish?
The Classico, the huge Spanish futbol match, goes to Barcelona over Real Madrid 1-0.

Hey Marc, check out the post a few days ago about Weiss a few days ago. Some candidates are listed there.

Now, soccer/futbol, let's talk about the handball incident and the Irish team! And Barcelona over Real Madrid...huge!

It was interesting how the FAI wanted Ireland to be the 33rd team in the 32 team World Cup. They were basically laughed off of the stage. Cheating is a HUGE part of futbol. Just watch a game and see how many time the players act as if they were mugged when no contact occurred. The main point is that video replay needs to be used on controversial plays. They say to much time will be taken up, but if you catch the flagrant abusers of the play acting in futbol, then more time could be spent on getting the call right.

Another place that video replay is needed. However, there's got to a time limit; it can't slow a game to an utter crawl. One of the most exciting things about soccer and hockey (in my humble opinion) is that scoring tends to be difficult and yet it can happen quickly. So I'm about fairness; just don't ruin the game as a result.

Good chatting with you, my friend!
